Sente exercises came from the teaching of the Chinese style Pa Kua (Ba Gua), one of the three main styles of China. Pa Kua is known for its circular movements. The two other main styles are Tai Chi, which is known for its vertical and horizontal movements and Hing I, known for its linear movements.
When practicing Sente exercises it is important to utilize Yin and Yang theory with your hand strikes. If one hand is in chamber position for striking, which is away from your attacker. Then the opposite hand should be at the opposite end from that hand, which is closest to the attacker. Upon execution of the strike the hands should exchange positions. Always apply the concept of Yin and Yang (push, pull method). Also remember that Sente are known for their circular movements. These exercises can be done weaponless or with a weapon. They are listed in the pinnacle as Okinawan oar (Eiku) free exercises.
